Over Crowding Draws Citations
Tuesday, November 11th, 2008
A house where police discovered 23 people were living has created problems for the city for more than a year.
Ten adults were cited on Oct. 29 for over occupancy and unsightly and unsanitary conditions at the house. Another was charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. The charges came after the state Department of Human Services were notified that a child was treated at Northwest Medical Center-Springdale for mouse bites on ears, head and legs.
Sgt. Billy Turnbough wrote citations to all the adults who lived at the address after an investigation with an investigator from Human Services. The number of people living in the house is believed to be the largest over occupation in the city. Only 13 people could legally live in the house at 2806 Granny Smith Ave., Turnbough said.
Trash and feces were scattered across the back porch, back yard and side of the house, Turnbough said. Empty beer bottles and cans were scattered in the yard and the house.
Harrison Edmond was cited last year for over occupancy at the house, Turnbough said. The citation came after the city had to remove a boat from the back yard filled with dirty water.
Chamlee has not seen anybody at the house since handing over the list of corrections to be made, he said. He did see a worker turning off the electricity at the home, he said.
