Amid the faceless concrete precincts of the City of Westminster magistrates’ court this week, Samantha Morton cut a distinctly incongruous and vaguely Dickensian figure.
Swathed in a voluminous and unflattering black smock coat and with her mousy hair scraped back into a severe bun, the pallid translucence of her face told tales of too many broken nights with her newborn baby and too little energy to face the make-up mirror.
