Missing city man survives eight-day solo bush ordeal
Mr Mulder disappeared after going with a family member to the Otapiri Gorge, where he was last seen about 2.15pm on March 6.
Police were notified by members of the public who alleged sightings of him in Tisbury, on the outskirts of Invercargill, and in the city.
Detective Senior Sergeant Brian Cowie said Mr Mulder was picked up by a farmer in the Otapiri area and taken to the Winton Police station around midday yesterday.
%26quot;It is believed that he spent the entire nearly seven days living rough in that area.%26quot; When he emerged from the bush he was in a %26quot;poor%26quot; condition but had survived a lack of food and cold weather, he said.
%26quot;Our understanding is he hasn%26#39;t eaten in almost seven days.%26quot; %26quot;He%26#39;s not really in good condition,%26quot; Mr Cowie said.
Mr Mulder was taken to Southland Hospital for medical assessment and later admitted.
However, Mr Cowie said his survival in the face of a lack of food and shelter had been remarkable.
Police would allow Mr Mulder to recuperate before talking to him , Mr Cowie said.
The possible sightings were never %26quot;100 percent%26quot;, but still begged the question as to who was wandering around the Tisbury area in the early hours of last Friday morning.
