Tanker crashes near Arthur’s Pass
An ambulance spokeswoman said a call was received at 10.37am to say a truck had gone over a bank at Death%26#39;s Corner, near Otira.
A helicopter was dispatched from Greymouth and is expected to arrive on the scene around 11.20am.
By chance, a van of ambulance officers was travelling to Hokitika for the weekend%26#39;s Wild Foods Festival, she said.
The officers, who were having a cup of tea in Arthur%26#39;s Pass at the time of the crash, made their way to the scene and were attending to the truck driver until the helicopter arrived, she said.
State Highway 73 has been reduced to one lane while police clear the scene.
The male driver is said to have moderate injuries.
