Winners of Spanish journalism awards announced

MADRID, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) — The 25th Spain’s King journalism awards were granted on Thursday in its different categories to professionals of Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico and Spain.

The winners in the Press category were Colombians Martha Ruiz, Jose Rubiel Navia and Juan Pablo Noriega, as well as Brazilian Rodrigo Cavalheiro and Argentine Javier Drovetto.

The Photography award was granted to Mexican Raul Alejandro Estrella for his photo of a criminal tied to a pole in Mexico’s southern Oaxaca state, which was published by El Universal daily of Mexico.

The Digital Journalism award went to Colombians Jose Rubiel Navia and Juan Pablo Noriega for their work The Yukpas, a warrior people published on March 18 of 2007 in the eltiempo. com internet page.

The King of Spain award for Radio was won by Spaniard Fran Sevilla, while the Television award was handed over to his countryman Juan Antonio Sacaluga. Sevilla received the award for his report The mothers of Ciudad Juarez.

Meanwhile, Mexican writer German Dehesa received the Don Quijote Award for his work At what times! published in Mexican daily Reforma on June 22 of 2007.

The King of Spain awards are issued every year for journalists from Latin America, Spain, Portugal, the United States, Puerto Rico, the Philippines, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco and Israel.
