Donnellson Lions offer vision screening

DONNELLSON — Donnellson Lions will conduct vision screening at Central Lee Elementary School March 17 during the schools Child Find event. The screening is non-invasive and is free of charge for infants and children 6 months to 48 months old.

A Polaroid picture is taken of the child’s eyes by trained personnel. The pictures are sent to the University of Iowa where a professional examines the photos to detect any evidence of eye problems including, but not limited to, amblyopic or lazy eye and children cataracts.

If the University of Iowa professional suspects a problem, a letter is sent to the parents with the information and suggests the child be taken to an optometrist or ophthalmologist for further testing.

No appointment is necessary for the screening, and the child does not need to be pre-kindergarten age. Children should be accompanied by a parent, grandparent or guardian.
