SCC picks up two wins in Branson Bash

The Southeastern Community College softball team earned two wins in three games on the first day of the Branson Bash tournament Friday in Branson, Mo.
The Blackhawks (9-4) opened with a 1-0 victory over North Central Missouri College, as Johana Gomez fired a two-hit shutout. Desiree Mujica ripped a one-out RBI double that scored Danielle Boyle in the bottom of the seventh for the victory. Gomez fanned 14 and walked one in taking the victory.
Crowder College grabbed a 7-0 lead in SCC’s second game, then had to hold off the Blackhawks’ late-inning rally before prevailing 7-5.
Mujica and Allison Setterberg hit home runs for the Blackhawks, with Setterberg driving in three runs, and Mujica and Anyibell Ramirez added one apiece. Ramirez took her first loss of the season, striking out four and walking five.
SCC wrapped up the day with a 7-3 victory over Carl Albert. Gomez, Ramirez and Anais Puertas had three hits apiece in the victory, while Setterberg had two hits. Gomez and Sarah Weber drove in two runs apiece.
The 10-team tournament continues today, with SCC facing Three Rivers (Mo.) and North Arkansas.
